Stylus developed a 3-tier architecture supported online audio journal application – a classic case of transforming a novel idea into virtual reality.

The Client
Years of misplaced sticky-notes of memorable moments hastily scribbled down prompted Eric Jackson to come up with a novel idea: To provide a cost-effective solution for capturing and recording the significant moments in people’s lives.

Thus was born DiaryPhone, a web-based application that allows users to record their thoughts on phone and delivers the audio file and transcription for a nominal fee.

Stylus Systems was approached by Eric who was looking for a company with in-depth technical knowledge in ecommerce web site development. Stylus took up the challenge of designing and developing a unique idea into a reality.

The Challenge
DiaryPhone catered to almost anyone who had a telephone and a desire to record his or her thoughts. However, the primary audience was those who did not have the time or patience to write their thoughts down – particularly the young crowd and the senior citizens. The challenge was to develop an ecommerce website that could make the two diverse target groups feel at home with the website.

When the user dials the Toll Free number to begin recording, he is automatically connected to the Interactive Voice Response Technology provider. This called for flawless integration between user and IVR provider, and the subsequent linking between the IVR provider with the DiaryPhone web application.

Online security was also considered explicitly since validation of the user identity happens through the third party IVR provider.

Having understood the client’s needs and requirements, we employed our proven offshore software development model to realize a novel idea into virtual reality.

The Solution
Stylus developed the application from scratch using a 3-tier approach. 3-tier architecture increases scalability and introduces a separation of business logic from the display and database layers. This ensured flawless interlinking between the user interface, the third party IVR provider and the web application.

Our interface designers developed an interface that creates a nostalgic ambience and also made the site easy-to-use and comfortable for the user. Commencing from the logo design to coming up with a catchphrase for the website, our interface design team left no stone unturned.

The website allows users to record their voice on a phone and delivers the audio file with the transcribed material to the end user. Advanced features of the website include picture gallery and the mixing of pictures and the audio file to create a real feel-good experience.

Stylus understood that designing and developing a new concept into reality called for a departure from conventional web design methods and start thinking out-of-the-box. This simplified our ecommerce website development strategy for this case enabling us to complete the project much ahead of schedule.
