The 7th Annual POS (Point-of-Sale) Benchmarking Survey of the Top 100 Specialty Retailers by LakeWest Group has vindicated the age-old axiom of “Customer is the King”

LakeWest Group found that “retailers are focusing on better understanding the customer and aligning their business strategy to that customer, and then designing the necessary processes, technology, operations, and organization around the customer strategy.”

What does this mean for retailers?
The prime inclination of this trend is that customer’s options will be multiplied and the customer will not hesitate in jumping ships if her retailer does not satisfy her demands.

No wonder an increasing number of retailers are opting for a makeover to attract new customers and retain the existing ones.

Technology will play a huge part
LakeWest survey also says in addition to offering customers valuable services, retailers are employing various applications to assist in “the management of store employees, tasks, and payroll dollars, which helps provide retailers with the tools needed to enhance the customer shopping experience.”

“The foundation for the success of these applications lies in the infrastructure at the store level,” declares the survey.

One of the survey’s prime findings is: nearly one-third of retailers surveyed plan to replace hardware and software in the next two years and nearly one-quarter of the retailers will upgrade their connectivity.
